According to 2001 census, the population of Jamnagar was 447,734. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Gujrati is the spoken language of Jamnagar while Kachhi is the language of minor population of the region.
Patels, Satvara (Dalvadi), Ahirs(Yadav), , Bhanushalis, Rajputs (Darbars), Lohanas etc. are the communities of Jamnagar. Fishery is the primary profession of the locals though the advent of industries in Jamnagar gives a new rise to the city’s economy.
