The Biggest Grain Market of Asia Khanna

Khanna is situated in Punjab on the Grand Truck Road (National Highway 1) and is 40km from Ludiana which is the biggest industrial town of Punjab. Khanna is the biggest Grain Market of Asia. Lakh tones of grain from this city are exported to other parts of country and abroad as well. It is also one of the industrial towns of Punjab.
It is an ancient town which history dates back to 500 years. Khanna derives its name from a measuring unit named Kanna which means a small area. There is an interesting fact regarding the formation of this city. Jathedar of Dahedu married his daughter Daya Kaur to the king of Nabha. After some time there were several conflicts came between them. As a consequence Daya kaur left her in law forever and came to his father. According to the traditions a daughter couldn’t be reside in her parents home, so Jathedar cut out a Kann means small portion of the territory between Dahedu and Nabha for her daughter Daya Kaur. With the passage of time Kann had been known as Khanna.
It is the municipal corporation in the Ludhiana district. The original area is the Chotta Khanna while the modern town is known as Khanna.
