The Corporation of Chennai is started in September 1688 as Corporation of Madras. The Corporation is the oldest Municipal Institution in the Country. Sir Josiah Child was responsible for the foundation of the Corporation of Madras. Mr. Nathaniel Higginson was the first mayor of the Corporation. The Corporation has the responsibility to maintain the Roads, Storm Water Drains, Street Lights, Parks, Community Halls for Public, Solid Waste, Records of Death and Birth per day.
