Diageo Plc is a publicly held international British alcoholic beverages manufacturer company based in London. Diageo manufactures various brands of alcohol such as Baileys, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Guinness. The half name of the name took from Latin word 'dies' which means day and 'geo' comes from Greek language which means world. From the combination of two different languages word 'dies' and 'geo' made Diageo. Diageo Plc commenced its operations in the year of 1997 with the conglomerate of two leading companies named Grand Metropolitan Public Limited and Guinness Plc. In the same year, the shares of Diageo has been listed on London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol LSE: DGE, New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol NYSE: DEO and also listed on Irish Stock Exchange with the symbol of ISEQ: GUI. Till the year of 2002, Diageo operated Burger King, which is world's leading fast food restaurant, but due to some reasons the company sold out this restaurant. Diageo also operates a mill under the name of Pillsbury and it is also sold by Diageo to General Mills. Behind these, Diageo has the motive to focused only on manufacturing of alcoholic beverages. After that, Diageo started alcoholic operations and manufactures vodka, rum, beer, scotch whisky, American whiskey, Canadian whiskey, bourbon, tequila, Tennessee whiskey, wines and others.
