Overview Bareilly

Bareilly is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is located on Ramganga River and situated 252 kilometers away from Lucknow. Bareilly has a long history as according to Epic Mahabharata, it is the birth place of Draupadi. After Kanpur, Agra and Lucknow; Bareilly is the fourth city in Uttar Pradesh, having compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station. It is the 7th largest metropolis in U.P. and the 50th largest city in India.

Bareilly is also called as Nath Nagri because of its Shiva temples, which are located in four corners of the region namely: Alakha Nath, Dhopeshwar Nath, Trivati Nath and Madni Nath. The city is well known for its manufacturing and trade in sugar, cereal and cotton. The name ‘Bareilly’ has been derived from the words ‘Bansaldev’ and ‘Baradev’ (Two Princes) who were the sons of Jagat Singh Katehriya, the founder the city (1537). Also, the city has been nominated as one of the hundred Indian cities to be established or developed as a smart city according to PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.
