Overview Guwahati

Guwahati is the largest and fastest growing city in the Indian state of Assam. The city is also called the City of Temples because there are many ancient temples in the city. Guwahati is located between the foothills of Shillong and Brahmaputra River. The city is also the second largest metropolitan city in the eastern region after Kolkata. The city hosts various wildlife which including rare animals like as pythons, rhinoceros, endangered birds, gaurs and Asian elephants. The name of Guwahati derived from the word Guwa which means areca nut.

According to the traditional histories of India, it is assumed that Guwahati is one of the ancient cities of Asia. In a survey of 2006 it is found that Guwahati ranked 17th among the entire medium and large sized Indian cities and also the city has a very working and residential environment landscape such as modern apartment, bungalows, pleasant climate and social infrastructure. The city also has been selected to develop as smart city under the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.
