About Kozhikode

Kozhikode is one of the famous districts in the state of Kerala and it is also called cock fort. It is situated in the 236 kilometers from the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram. The district is formerly known as Calicut which is the district headquarters. Kozhikode dubbed by the city of spices because it is the major trading of eastern region. The district was also the capital of independent kingdom ruled by the Samoothris (Zamorins) in the Middle Ages and erstwhile Malabar district under the rule of British.

In the 7th century Arab merchants traded with the region and Portuguese explorer in Vasco da Gama and landed in 20 May 1498 in Kozhikode between the route of Malabar and Europe. Kozhikode district also very famous for its cotton weaving center with the name of Calico Cloth. City of Sculptures tag was given by the city in the year of 7 June 2012 because there are most famous architectural sculptures situated in the city. According to economics research, analytics, residences, investment and earnings Kozhikode is ranked as the second best city in India. The district is consist of one revenue division, twelve blocks, three taluks, 117 villages and 78 panchayats.

Kozhikode city is a center of international and domestic trade and all round development trade in the district for economic and commerce development. The district is also marketing center of commodities such as rubber, lemon, coffee, pepper, coconut, grass oil etc. to their neighboring districts Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur.
