Capt. Metcalfe, Master Mariner, established this firm of Surveyors & Loss Assessors in September 1885 at Bombay on inducement and for the convenience of British Mercantile and Insurance interests. A few years later as the business grew Capt. Hodgkinson, Master Mariner, joined the firm as a junior partner and the firm eventually acquired the name “Metcalfe & Hodgkinson” as a registered partnership firm.
