Ever since the spectre of statehood raised its head in Uttaranchal Dilliwallas begab fearing the worst for their beloved "Doon", a popular getaway from Delhi for so long because of its proximity and heartwarming charm.Nestled in the lap of mountain ranges of the Himalayas, Dehradun is one of the oldest cities of India. Also known as the "abode of Sage Drona", Dehradun is a captivating city situated amidst the foothills of Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand. Well, fear not just as yet, for a while this new status has roused the sleepy town from its Raj-era reverie, marking Dehradun with the most uncharacteristic new found officialdom, the old town manages to retain its laid-back aura. You can still drive up to "Doon" and find colonial bungalows draped with flowering bougainvillaea, lychee trees lining the quiet back roads, and the perennial peace of its ancient forest enclaves amongst the Shivalik Hills. You can still escape the shimmering heat of summer and run to Dehra, watch thunderclouds race across the valley in the monsoons, gaze at scarlet sunsets and a dazzling winterline in the cold months. So, don't give up. Not just yet. Doon still demands your fidelity.
With Illustrious history, Royal, salubrious nature, hospitable people, cultural abundance, it is the entry point to some beautiful hill stations, pilgrimage sites and to the upper Himalayas. The city is most favored tourist destination of India.
