Haldia is one of the fastest developing industrial towns in the state of West Bengal. It is the major riverport and industrial belt situated 125 kilometers from the southwest of Kolkata. The city is being developed as a major trade port for Kolkata, chiefly for bulk cargoes.
This industrial city has several major factories like Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Tata Chemicals, South Asian Petrochemicals Limited, Shaw Wallace, Haldia Petrochemicals, Exide and Hindustan Lever. The city is also the base of Indian Coast Guard DHQ 8. In addition to these factories, Haldia is one of the major ports in India today.
