History Lucknow

According to legends, Lucknow has derived its name form Lakshman who is younger brother of Lord Ram from Epic Ramayana. It is said that Lord Ram had given this city to him. Then it was known as Lakshmanpur. It was the most prosperous and developed city in 18th century. Even its prosperity made The Times of London to compare Lucknow with Constantinople. Rome and Athens in 1850 A.D. It was one of the prominent centers of 1857 revolt against British domination. During that event, Lucknow's Residency witnessed killing of 2000 people. In 1947 partition of India, much of its elite residents were moved to Pakistan. Now the Lucknow is the center of many political activities.
