Places To See In Mysore

City of Palaces is the another given to the city of Mysore. Royal families have built various buildings in Mysore. In Mysore apart from the Palaces, there are also other tourist places. Most popular spot in Mysore is Chamundi hills and the temple on top of the hills.

CHAMUNDI HILLS: The famous landmark of the city is the Chamundi Hills which is situated on the outskirts of the Mysore city. The height of this hill is 1065 meters above sea leave and about 800 feet above Mysore city. Chamundeshwari temple is on the Chamundi hills, which is from the 11th century. Lots of prayer by the Gods and Goddesses to save their life from the hands of the demon, leads Goddess Parvathi to take birth as Goddess Chamundeshwari who in response killed the monster on top of the Chamundi hill in the Mysore.

MYSORE ZOO: This zoo also known as Palace Zoo was instate in the year 1892. The zoo was developed on 10 acres of the Summer Palace. On the backdrop there is a picturesque of the Chamundi hills, artificial lake is there, with the beautiful bandstand and lastly wide range of animals. This zoo has breed various animals in captivity successfully. This zoo consist of spacious enclosures, walk throughs, a veterinary hospital, with facility for quarantine, operation theatre, medicine rooms and wards for animals.

BALMURI AND EDMURI WATERFALLS: The place is surrounded by the lush greenery and more over waterfalls are there, is a good hot spot among the locals as well. This place is very quite and the journey to this place is very relaxing. There is also an ancient Ganesh temple where tourist visit very often.

ST. PHILOMENA's CHURCH: One of the oldest church in India is St. Philomena's church. This church is over 200 years old. The church was designed by a Frenchman named Daly. The floor plan of the cathedral is in the form of a cross. The long part of the cross is the 'nave', which is the congregation hall. The two arms of the cross are the 'transepts'. The fourth part containing the altar and the choir is the 'crossing'. The part of the church that is most attractive is the towers or spires. These towers resemble that of a cathedral in Cologne in Germany and those of St. Patrick's Church in New York. The two spires are 175 feet tall. There is an orphanage on the premises of the church that is run by the church.

JAGANMOHAN PALACE: One of the oldest buildings in Mysore is the Jaganmohan Palace. Jaganmohan Palace is about 150 years old. This palace was built by the Kings of Mysore, likewise the palace of Mysore, this palace is also very beautiful. Jaganmohan Palace after some times converted into the Jayachamarejendra Art Gallery which displays the paintings and artifacts that belonged to the Kings of Mysore.

KARANJI MANSION: The Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar built mansions for his three daughters and named after the second princess-Krishnajammanni,which was used by the princesses after their marriage. This mansion was built in the year 1902 over an area of 38 acres and in on a small hillock. The Postal Training Institute of the Department of Posts, Government of India, has been using the Karanji Mansion since 1965.
