Introduction Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr is the city and municipal council in Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar District of Punjab state. It is situated on the right banks of Sutlej River. It is located 92 km from the state capital Chandigarh and surrounded by the four districts of Punjab like Jalandhar, Roopnagar, Hoshiarpur and Kapurtha.This historical town is supposed to be built by Nausher Khan, the military commander of Allaudin Khilji. It was called “Nausar” but with the passage of time it had been pronounced as Nawanshahr. The memory of  Nausher Khan, the founder of this city resides in five forts built by him.  Nawanshahr is the house of many religious and historical places. Several Gurudwaras, Temples and Mosques are located in different parts of the district. The Punjab government renamed the Nawashahr district as Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar for honoring the legendary revolutionary Bhagat Singh on his 101st birth anniversary as the announcement was made by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal on 27/09/2008. The city has been flourishing in the field of education and health. There are many private hospitals besides only Government Hospital while there are many leading institutions in the field of education offering various courses.
