Places to Visit Ahmednagar

Ahmednagar Fort: Once it had been served as the headquarter of Ahmednagar sultanate and then Prison cell for the British empire, now the famous visiting place to be visited in Ahmednagar. This is a circular shaped fort was built by Ahmed Nizam Shah in 1490. It consists of 18 meters high walls, supported by 22 bastions. It is the example of fine architecture and counted among the beautiful forts of India. Ahmednagar Fort is currently under the control of the military command of India. Many invasions were carried out to this fort though it stood firmly. It was used by the British Government as imprison. In 1942, entire Congress Working Committee was detained at the Ahmednagar Fort during the Quit India Movement of 1942. The first Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru was detained in the Fort. During his imprisonment he wrote his famous book, The Discovery of India. Currently, some rooms in the Fort have been transformed into a museum. Leader’s room is the place where Nehru and the other national leaders were imprisoned.

Chand Bibi Palace: It is 13 km from Ahmednagar City. The place has Salabat Khan Tomb which is a three-storey structure made of solid stone. It is subject of mystery for the historians as the Chand Bibi palace is called Salabat Khan Tomb. It is visible from anywhere from the city as it is situated on the top on the hill. It presents spectacular view in city lights in the night.

Renuka Durga Temple: It is situated in Kedgaon which is near Nagar Pune highway. The Navratri celebration is the striking feature of this temple which is celebrated with great enthusiasm. It is celebrated on the victory of Goddess Durga over demon king Mahishasura.

Alamagir: The graveyard of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb is situated here. It is home of Mosque and Bardari where the meetings used to organize. The library near the mosque has the rare collection of rare Qurans contemporary to the time of Emperor Aurangzeb. The Quran which was written by Emperor himself is also present in the library.

Vishal Ganpati Mandir: This temple of lord Ganesh has a great importance to the people of Ahmednagar which is located in Maliwada area in Ahmednagar City. Another temple is Siddhatek Siddhivinayak which is dedicated to Lord temple.
Shridi: It is very famous place as it was the home of great saint Sai baba. He was equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. It is situated 83 km away from Ahmednagar city.

Shinganapur: It will amaze if you look at the houses of this village without doors because the villagers of Shingnapur believes that Lord Shani (Saturan) will take care of their houses. Another thing that amaze you that there is no crime of burglary is reported in the village.
