Overview Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is the capital of Indian state of Odisha and also its largest city. It is the center of economic and religious importance in Eastern India. The city has a very old history of 3000 years, starting with the Mahamegha Bahana Chedi Dynasty at capital Sisupalgarh nearby Bhubaneswar and after that it changed to Tribhubaneswar. The meaning of the word ‘Tribhubaneswar’ is Lord Tribhuban which refers to Shiva. The city is also known with many names like Kalinga Nagari, Toshali, Chakra Kshetra, Ekamra Kshetra, Ekamra Kanan and Mandira Malini Nagari.

Bhubaneswar is usually described as the Temple City of India and is an important Hindu pilgrimage center. Konark, Puri and Bhubaneswar form the Golden Triangle which is one of the most visited destinations of eastern India. In the year 1948 Bhubaneswar replaced Cuttack as the capital city of Odisha. Bhubaneswar is a modern city and it was designed by Otto Konigsberger who was a German Architect in the year of 1946. The city is classified as a Tier-2 city because it is an education hub and an emerging information technology city. Bhubaneswar was also the ancient capital of Kalinga Empire and best known for its heritage and culture in the world.
