Festivals In Vadodara

DHULETI It is a one of the famous festival of Vadodara. Every year it comes after the next day of holi. It is also known as Dhuli Padvo. People celebrate it with lots of fervour and joy. They throw colors on each other and enjoy the festival.

THE TRIBAL FERVOR In the villages of Vadodara, Adivasi men play a martial game known as Gol-Gadheda in which the women after snatching a shoulder scarf from a man, ties it on a tree top with a lump of molasses. It is the job of the man to retrieve it from the tree, which is vigorously guarded by women. The game goes on till one of the men succeeds in securing the bundle. Such is the boundless merrymaking of the day.

UTTARAYAN or Makar Sankranti is celebrated as the kite-flying day. Kite-flying day in Vadodara is an extraordinary day, unlike at other places. Kite-flying festival in Indore is being held each year. The festival draws expert kite-makers and flyers not only from cities of India but also from around the world. Designer's Kites of infinite variety are displayed at the venue.
 
RATH YATRA The procession of Rath Yatra is biggest in Vadodara. There are three separate chariots for the idols of Krishna, Balram and their sister Subhadra. The chariots resemble those at Jagannath Puri and are adorned with garlands.Music bands and Bhajan Mandlis lead the procession. Decorated elephants also move with the procession numerous sadhus of all Vaishnavite sects and devotees join in this procession headed by the Mahant of Jagannath Temple.
