History Vadodara

Sayaji Rao Gaekwad laid foundation to make Vodadara home of Industrial, Commercial and Educational Centers.  Its present name Vadodara is the result of many reasons. Once city was known as (Viravati), the land of braves. (Vadpatra) name is also given to city, because of the abundance of banyan trees at the bank of the Vishwamitri. Vadodara was also ruled by Raja Chandan he gave it a new name Chandravati.

Before period of Maharaja Sayajirao, the city was under the control of Moghul. They came in 1732 to rule over the city, after the Maratha activities in Southeren Gujrat, it came under the control of Gaekwads from (1734-1949). The greatest period of city was the period of Maharaja Sayajirao III (1875), during this period city was at its zenith and achieved success in the field of economy,art and architecture.

Vadodara has its own different place on cultural, economical and Industrial map of India. Though Vadodara is one of the finest city of india, yet even after 65 years of Independence,city is still under the influence of its ruling dynasties, moreover city is fighting to retain its beauty and rich heritage.
