Fairs And Festivals Varanasi

Fairs and festival are celebrated in Varanasi with great enthusiasm. Whether its Holi or Diwali, Varanasi is decorated like bride. People come from far flung to experience the thrill of celebration of festivals here.

BHARAT MILAP It is celebrated in October-November to commemorate Lord Ram return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his reunion with his brother, Bharat. The message of this festival is the victory of truth over evil.

BUDDHA PURNIMA It is celebrated as the birthday of Gautam Buddha. It falls on the full moon day in the Hindu month of April-May. It is interesting fact that Buddha achieved Moksha (salvation) on the same day. Thus it is also remembered as the death anniversary of Lord Buddha.

MAHASHIVRATRI Mahashivratri celebration holds immense significance in Varanasi as it is the city of Shiva. On the occasion of this grand festival, all the temple are decorated. The religious fervor on the occasion of Mahashivratri is noteworthy. On this day, the grand procession of Shiva is carried out from Mahamrityunjaya Temple, Daranagar to Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

NAG NATHAIYA It is the part of Krishna Leela Ceremony where a legend from Lord Krishna life is reenacted. It is celebrated during November-December

NAKKATAYY It is mythological episode from the Ramayana in which Laxmana stilted the nose of Shurpnakha. Nakkatayya Leela is an act which is taken from that episode. It is organized at Chetganj and large number of people gathers here to see the reenactment. It is held during the mid October.

HANUMAN JAYANTI Hanuman Jayanti is yet another festival of Varanasi which marks the birthday of Lord Hanumanji who is the symbol of strength. Hanuman ji was the zealous devotee of Lord Rama and is worshiped for his ultimate submission to Rama and protect his devotees from every crises. The festival is observed at the Sankat Mochan Temple in Varanasi. The devotees pay their visit to Hanuman ji to receive his blessings. They apply sindoor tilak on the statues of Hanuman Ji and offer Ladoos.

KARTIK PURNIMA The ghats of Varanasi offer a splendid view on the occasionKartik Purnima as they are glittered with thousands of earthen lamps. It is celebrated in November-December.

THE DHRUPAD MELA It is the five day long music festival held in March in which many renowned artists form all over the country take part.

PANCH KOSHI PARIKARMA As the name suggests, the procession is passed through five place which are Kardmeshwar, Bhimchandi, Rameshwar, Shivpur and Kapildhara. The procession begins and ends at Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi.
