Vijayawada Religious and Tourist Places

There are many historical and tourist places in Vijayawada to be visited. These places are the attraction of the people. These are the religious as well as the tourist places. These places can be defined below:

Kanaka Durga Temple: This temple is built for the goddess Durga. Lakhs of pilgrims used to worship here. There the temple reflects the power, benevolence and riches of Goddess Kanaka Durga. The temple is located at the top of the Indrakeeladri hills.

Mangalagiri: Mangalagiri is the oldest Vaishnavite Temple located in South India. The Temple is best place to be visited by the tourists as well as pilgrims. The Temple is built between the Guntur and Vijayawada.

Sri Subramanya Temple: Sri Subramanya is a prominent temple. On the day of Skanda Shashti, many Muruga devotees can be found at this temple. The temple is located on the hill. The dark idol is abhisekam with the milk. The opening time of temple is from morning 4:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Hazrat Bal Mosque: The mosque is an ancient place where mostly the Islamic worshippers are found as well as the other religion people who are faithful also used to come here. Evening time is the best time to be visited. To see the scene of relic many devotees can be found at the mosque that happens once in the year.

Gunadala Mary Matha Church: The Church is located at the top of the hill at East direction of Vijayawada. The church is also famous with the name St. Mary’s Church. People believe that on 11th of February 1858 Mary Matha appeared there. The festival is celebrated from 9th February to 11th of February. Not only the Christians but the people of other religion also visit at the church. People can visit between 6:00 am to 9:00 pm daily.

Philadelphia AG Church: The Church is largest church of Vijayawada. Pastor Jacob P. John built the church. It is believed that the founder lived at village in Chiluvur district but one day he heard the voice of god and moved from his village to Vijayawada. More than 8000 people used to visit at this place on Sunday. The service of church is conducted in four schedules.

CSI St. Pauls Centenary Church: The church is oldest church of the city was built in the year of 1900. CSI St Pauls Centenary Church is situated at BRP Road in Vijayawada. The church is related to the Krishna Godavari diocese. Apart from the worshipping, on every Sunday the school is run there and study related to the faith and right spirit is tough there. The services under the church are completed in English as well as Telugu.

Akkana and Madanna Caves: The caves are located near the Kanaka Durga Temple and were founded during 6th -7th century AD. It is believed by the historians that the caves are from the early time of Pallava, Chalukya and Vishunkundin. The caves are divided into two caves. The pillars of caves are rectangular and octagonal shape. The architectural style of the caves is a mix with the pattern of lkshvaku style architecture.

Undavalli Caves: During the century of 4th and 5th AD the undavalli caves were established. Undavalli Caves can be found at 6 kilometer from Vijayawada at Guntur district Undavalli village. These caves attract the people more than other caves in Vijayawada. The idol inside the cave of Lord Vishnu has the length of 5 meters. In the caves the visitors can visit between 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Mogalrajapuram Caves: These caves are located at the distance of 5 kilometers from Vijayawada. The caves include the idols of Nataraja, Ardhanareeshwara and Vinayaka. The caves are here from the 5th century. Mogalrajapuram caves are the attraction of the people as historical place as well as a tourist place.

Kondapalli Fort: The fort is located at Kondapalli in the district Krishna and western side of Vijayawada. The fort was built during 1360. There are three different entranceway of Kondapalli Fort. The main entry gate is called Dargha Darwaja with the broad of 12 feet and length of 15 feet.

Krishnaveni Museum: The name of the Museum is taken from the river named Krishna. That is the only museum in Vijayawada and the fourth in the globe. The museum is located on the Krishna River’s bank. The museum exhibited the portrays related to the prospects from the long journey of river before the falling into the Bay of Bengal, the statues related to Krishnamma and Goddess Krishnavei are there, etc.

Victoria Jubilee Museum: The Museum is situated at Bander Road, Archaeological department maintains the museum. Inside the museum the collection of paintings, Buddhist and Hindu relics artifacts and the sculptures can be found. The museum was established in 1887 as celebration part of Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria

Prakasham Barrage: This Barrage is a connection way between the Guntur district and Krishna district. The barrage is one of the important sources of irrigation for agriculture infrastructure. The idea of construction of a dam on the river was come in 1798. In 1957 the bridge is the first successful was completed related to the irrigation.

Gandhi Hill: The Gandhi Hill was established in the year of 1968. The Gandhi Hill is also famous with the name Orr Hill and first Gandhi Memorial situated in India with the seven stupas. The ideologies and teachings of Gandhi can be read inscribed at stone slabs.

Rajiv Gandhi Park: The park has houses of number of rare plants/trees and educative units, also has skating rink, cricket zone, Bungee trampoline, food court, shooting, etc. The maintenance of the park is taken by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The park is located on the National Highway number 9 right side of city’s entrance.

Bhavani Island: Bhavani Island is the largest Island which is located at the upstream of the Krishna river. Mostly people visit in the boat to enjoy this island.

Indira Gandhi Stadium: Indira Gandhi Stadium is located at Mahatma Gandhi Road, Labbipet, Vijayawada. The Stadium was established in the year of 1969 and has a capacity to accommodate 25,000 people. Andhra Cricket Association is the operator and owner of the stadium. The Stadium has also hosted the international level matches.
