Places to Visit Mathura

The ancient land of Mathura has been known for its mythical importance and temples. Large number of tourists visit Mathura throughout the year. Most of the places are associated with Lord Krishna. Mathura is also surrounded by Vrindavan, Barsana, Goverdhan and Jatipura.

Shri Krishna Janma Bhoomi
It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. A temple is built on this site. A museum situated inside the temple displays several antique statues that were excavated in the neighboring areas.

Janma Masjid
It was built by Abo-inNabir-Khan in 1661.A.D. Jama Masjid set an example of communal harmony in Mathura. This beautiful mosque has 4 lofty minarets, with bright colored plaster mosaic of which a few panels currently exist.

Vishram Ghat
It is believed that Lord Krishna had rested on this place before fighting duel with his Uncle Kansha. Vishram Ghat is situated near Yamuna.

Dwarkadheesh Temple
The Dwarkadhish Temple was built in the year 1814 and is located near Yamuna. It is prominent temple elegantly decorated on religious and celebratory occasions such as Holi, Janmashtami and Diwali. The temple demonstrates fabulous architectural splendour.

Vrindavan
Situated at the distance of 15 km from Mathura, it is known as the place which is known for the place where Krishna spent his life in romance. It is also known as “the city of widows”. The places of attractions here are  Govinda Dev Temple, Shahji Temple, Rang Ji Temple and Radha Ballabh Temple.

Goverdhan
Situated at the distance of 26 km from Mathura. It is said that Krishana raised the Goverdhan hillock on his finger.. The temple of Har Deva Ji in Goverdhan town is 400 Yrs old. The Mansi Ganga which is an artificial lake, was constructed my Man Singh of Jaipur.

Barsana
It is believed to be the birth place of Radha, the beloved and counterpart of Lord Krishna. The four peaks of hill are tourist’s attraction.
