Gardens are places where people find peace and feel rejuvenated. Away from the madness of the city life are the lovely lush SHALIMAR GARDENS. Their location is approximately central to the city. These gardens house the Royal Cenotaphs popularly known as the Shahi Samadhs. These Samadhs depict the values of the ruling dynasties. There are also memorials to the previous Rulers along with their families at the Shalimar Gardens. These memorials are in the form of Marble obelisks located inside red sandstone chambers.
There is also a goliath structure built nearby on a marble plinth. This was built in the year 1880. This structure has in its ambit the Samadhs of all noted Maharajas - Maharaja Kharak Singh, Jagatjit Singh and Maharaja Paramjit Singh.
