Madurai Culture and Cuisines

Culture
Madurai Culture is based on the cultural diversity. All the traditional culture reflects through its customs, traditions, religious sanctity, art work, ballads, dramas, folk dances, festivals, ceremonies, songs, etc. By adopting the latest culture the people have become modern and changed their lifestyle but the culture still shows by the religion and festivals. The women of Madurai mostly use to wear Dhavani or Thavani and sarees, Thavani is a half sari. Salwar Kameez is used to be wear by the North Indian women. The stuff of the dresses is mostly used cotton. With the impact of western dresses, western dresses are also used to be wear. The famous folk dance forms of Madurai are Kathakali, Thiruvathirakali and Chavittunatakkam, etc.
The famous painting of the Madurai is Tanjore Paintings which is decorated by gold threads and ornaments. The Indian Handicrafts century Deccan paintings of century 11th and 12th, 16th and 18th century of Mughal or Rajasthani paintings and 10th and 13th century of bronzes can be found at National Art Gallery. Madurai is well known as the centre of learning and literary achievements. Literary personages are attracted by Tamil Sangam. People mostly used to speak Tamil language while the Sourashtra community people used to speak Sourashtra language. The other regional languages are also spoken such as Telugu, Urdu, Hindi and Malayalam. English is used to be spoken by the educated people.

Cuisines
The cuisines of Madurai contain the pickles, roasted/ground spices, appalam, powders, dry snacks, papads, vada, etc. The snacks include the murukku, masala vada, thattai, etc. In the category of non-veg Chevon, Parota made with maida, fish, chicken, egg dosa, are the famous cuisines. The visitor mostly love the dishes such as Kal dosai, Dosa, idli, kari dosa, parottas, sambar, rasam, idiyappam, appam while Tamil Nadu has the famous dish that is Kuzhipaniyaram. Murugan Idli, Thekathi Samayal and Karaikudi Chetinadu Samayal are the dishes of northern side. The famous juices of Madurai are Paruthi Pal made with cotton seeds, coconut, jiggery, flour of raw rice and Jil Jil Jigarthanda. Cool Cucumbers, giant watermelons give relief in the summer season.
The spicy chicken soups, poriyal and attu kaal soups, pepper mushroom soups are used during the winter season. The street dishes include the sundal, ground nuts, steamed tapioca, urundais, kolakkattai, kepa vadai, puliyodharai and thakkali sadham, fruit salads with fruit chat are famous. Bhajjis, Coffee, tea and vadas are found around the clock.
