Geography and Climate Uttrakhand

The total area of Uttrakhand is 51,125 km² of which of which 93% is mountainous and 64% is covered by  forest.  It is situated on the southern grade of the  Himalayan. The high elevated areas are glaciers while the lowers are meadows and covered by dense forests. The two eminent rivers of India Ganges and Yamuna are originated from these glaciers. On the geographical  basis it is divided into eastern and western parts.   The western part is known as Garwal and the eastern part is Kumaon  region.
The distinction in climate is marked by the altitude of the regions situated on the Himalaya.  In some areas temperature may be pleasant and in some places its hard to survive in.  Himalayan plays  important role in variations of temperature.In the southern foothills, Generally the summer temperatures of about 30° C (about 86° F) and winter temperatures of about 18° C (about 64° F).Warm temperate conditions overcome in the Middle Himalayan valleys where summer temperatures usually balanced about the mark of 25° C (about 77° F) and cooler winters. The higher areas of the of the Middle Himalayas remains cooler with summer temperature around  15 to 18° C (59 to 64° F) and the temperature reduces to  below freezing point in winters.
The higher areas at the altitude of 4880 meters (16,000 feet), shivers with  the severe cold and masked in snow and ice.
There is contradiction regarding the eastern and western parts, as the former is hit by heavy rainfall while the latter is reasonably dry.
