Getting There Uttrakhand

Road
Uttrakhand is connected to all major parts of country through roads. Driving or hiring the car or taxi is also preferred. It takes takes about six hours from Delhi to Haridwar while Mussoorie is about eight hours distance while from Delhi to Nainital takes Seven or Eight hours.
Regular bus shuttle services (private, deluxe, state or otherwise) are available for journey to Uttarakhand. Not all   areas are connected to the roads. So walking on the foot is the only way.
Since most of the parts is hilly, the snake like roads may be unusual to drive on.  Many places in these areas are not accessible during the landslide, rainfall or snowfall.  The Uttarakhand State Road Transport Corporation runs buses to major cities.

Rail
Rail network is suitable in Uttarakhand. The Railway Stations in the state are Dehradun, Haridwar and Kathgodam. Many super-fast express and passenger (local) trains connect these areas with cities of other parts of country. Shatabadi Express connects Dehradun, Haridwar and Kathgodam to Delhi. However due to difficult topography of the hilly Uttaranchal, it is not possible to enlarge the railway services to interior and remote areas. Computerised railway booking facilities are available in some areas such as Srinagar, Uttrakashi, Nainital, Almora, Pithoragarh.

Air
Jolly Grant situated near Dehradun is the main airport of the state. Indian Airline operate daily flight to Delhi. Pant nagar is another airport with limited flights. The other one is Pithoragarh’s Naini Saini Airport.
